Owning Your Truth

T

I believe strongly in the power of narrative to shape and heal. The stories we tell about ourselves hold the potential to empower us, and allow us to own our truths.

This becomes particularly important in situations in which we find ourselves challenged or dismissed. I’ve experienced such situations on both a large and small scale — everything from a court case to a literary rejection — and every time what has saved me from internalizing other people’s judgments and negative opinions is a steadfast refusal to stray from my own solid course, my inner voice that wisely whispers: What they said doesn’t matter. This is your reality, your truth, your perspective, and it matters.

On more than one occasion, that reminder has saved my sanity and, by extension, my life. Such is the power of truth-telling and narrative-honoring.

  1. True to a point, but also remember that life is not a story either. It is a series of events that are loosely tied to one character, you. Therr is a lot out of your control, bit if you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll find what you’re looking for in the long run

  2. Finding your blog for the first time while out blog hopping from North Carolina during the #Challenge before hurrying on to visit as many blogs as possible on Sunday, our day off. Glad to find another writer with a theme I can learn from. I will try and catch up. If you have interest or time, I have been writing about hotels and inns, the architects and settings. On the letter T day it was about tea at a lovely hotel yesterday. Join me.
